A SORRY REVENGE
A Sorry Revenge is a psychological thriller. The protagonist Emma Taunton has a perfect life, until her world implodes when she learns of a family secret. The repercussions are devastating and the web of deceit and lies touches every member of her family. It is said that 'revenge is sweet'. Not always so...
I'm halfway through writing this book, but for a sneak peek in the meanwhile, here's chapter one.
A SORRY REVENGE by ALLI ROGERS
EMMA – 2023 – AGE 42
Emma Taunton perched precariously on the loo, her head banging. Too much alcohol again. When would she ever learn? Her fourth hangover that week and it was only Friday. The pattern was familiar, as was the cure – too many headache tablets washed down with a warm can of coke and a day off work she could ill afford.
That was one of the distinct drawbacks of being self-employed. You couldn't sneak the odd duvet day claiming to have caught the latest lurgy. Well, you could but your bank balance was always short on sympathy. And Emma really needed some sympathy now. But there was no one to offer a shoulder to cry on. Her flatmate had moved out some weeks previously after a petty blazing row about some missing makeup. The stupid bitch had made such a big deal out of nothing. Emma had just borrowed a few items and had every intention of returning them. Or so she said.
Even the cat feigned indifference to Emma's woes preferring the warmth of the airing cupboard shelf to her company. And who could blame it? She was an emotional wreck, a liar and a drunk. Drink was her only comfort.
Ten minutes passed with Emma's head clutched in her sweaty palms. Then she reached for a packet which had sat on the edge of the bath, seemingly ignored for the past week. Three minutes later her world fell apart.
The thin blue line stared up at her confirming her worst nightmare. She was pregnant. Stupid, stupid cow! How had she let that happen? Forty-two years old and pregnant. Even worse, single and broke. Now what was she going to do? Life wasn't meant to be like this.
